The Future Is Now!
Goals, plans — all for the future.
Lots of people in this generation are aware of the importance of goals and plans for the future they desire.
This future date to achieve any of these goals might be tomorrow, next week, next month or even next year.
Thankfully, the trend is not just about having goals but having and making SMART Goals, which included what to do, how to and when to do the activities that will lead to the actualisation of these goals.
As a child, I held on to lots of tomorrows that I forgot about today. Little did I know that it is today that will birth tomorrow and what I do now will translate into what I will get later.
Yes, it is good to make plans for the future, but now I have learnt that the only moment I have to conquer is the moment that exists now.
I need to conquer this very minute, this very second. Well, I can’t undo yesterday because it is gone and I can’t do tomorrow today, I can only plan for it. All I have within my power is this moment that I’m still breathing and what I do now will then birth the result of the future.
We were taught to plan for the future. There is this popular question that we were often asked as children, “what do you want to become in the future?” And these questions are still asked now. While these questions are right to be asked, I think it will be better when we restructure the thoughts of these children that what they become in the future is not about the future but about now because lots of nows and today will eventually birth the future.
I made mistakes yesterday, and I can make the same mistake tomorrow. I might not make the same mistake tomorrow if I focus on this moment and deal with the error. This moment will soon be gone and the next moment will be a ‘new’ now, and this will go on and on till we get to that ‘future.’
With the right knowledge, information and strategy, we can conquer the future one moment at a time, one now at a time.
So remember, while you are planning for the future, plan and work for now, because the Future is NOW!
Happy Independence, Nigeria!
